The Story Behind the Name

Breaking Barriers, Building Hope.

The name Brickthrough represents our mission: to dismantle the walls of misunderstanding that often surround neurodiversity.

We don’t focus on "fixing" children. Instead, we work to break through the barriers to connection—brick by brick—empowering every child to build a life of confidence and purpose in their own unique way.

Meet the Founder

Meet Kevin Kao

Kevin founded Brickthrough Therapy with a deep commitment to serving families with compassion, integrity, and patience. He believes that therapy is not just about ticking off goals; it’s about walking alongside families on their journey—offering hope when things feel hard, and celebrating every breakthrough, no matter how small.

Since graduating from Monash University in 2018, Kevin has worked across private clinics, community services, and Australia’s largest autism organisation. His experience runs deep, supporting children with complex needs—including Autism (ASD), ADHD, Intellectual Disability, and Sensory Processing challenges.

His passion for paediatrics actually began overseas in Hong Kong, where he started as a therapy assistant. That early experience shaped his gentle, respectful approach today: taking the time to build genuine trust with a child before asking them to perform a task.

A Culturally Safe Space: Kevin values the richness of diverse backgrounds. Fluent in English and Cantonese (with conversational Mandarin), he is passionate about creating a welcoming, inclusive environment where every family feels understood.

Committed to Lifelong Learning

We bring the latest evidence-based strategies to your home. Kevin actively deepens his practice through ongoing professional development, including:

  • Sensory Integration: Ayres Sensory Integration® (In Progress) & The Traffic Jam In My Brain® (Genevieve Jereb)

  • Emotional Regulation: The Zones of Regulation® (Leah Kuypers)

  • Social Skills: Social Thinking® Frameworks & DIR Floortime® 101

  • Body Awareness: Interoception: 3 Steps to Improving Interoception (Kelly Mahler)
